Engagement Rings Without a Center Diamond – Should You Consider One?
When considering an alternative engagement ring, there are so many routes you can go, ranging from settings that are just slightly different, to rings that stand out and defy what is considered “bridal.” Those who choose an engagement ring without a center diamond are closer to the latter end of the spectrum. Simply put, they are bold and unconcerned with what others think of them, following their own unconventional path in life.
You can place a white diamond in the middle of any ring and make it look somewhat traditional, but engagement rings without that center diamond are in a realm of their own. Below we’ve outlined some of the reasons people may prefer this unique style of engagement ring.
While the price of an alternative engagement ring varies just like a traditional ring, and is based on the quality of materials used and the skill of the jeweler, choosing a ring without a center diamond will generally lower the price of the ring quite a bit. The center stone can be any number of beautiful stones, or even a clear stone that looks like a diamond, allowing you more options within your budget.
Of course, this does not mean that all engagement rings with no center diamond are inexpensive. In fact, some may even cost more than a traditional engagement ring! Again, it all depends on the craftsmanship and cost of materials.
Not everyone likes the look of a plain white diamond, and may prefer a stone with more color and pop. Most fancy-colored diamonds cost more than white diamonds and are not always a practical choice for those on a limited budget. There are; however, numerous beautiful non-diamond stones that can be used as the ‘featured stone,’ that will allow you to stay within your budget. Just remember – you are not limited to plain white diamonds for your engagement ring!
Blue sapphires are an example of a diamond alternative that has become very popular in recent years. Aquamarine, tanzanite, topaz and turquoise are other stones that are quickly gaining in popularity.
Maybe you met your partner in Arizona and want a ring to symbolize that – perhaps you would prefer a turquoise engagement ring because it holds such significance to you. Most people choose rings with a center diamond because that’s what everyone else does, but there is no reason to follow this tradition if something else is more meaningful to you.
While many diamonds are now mined using ethical practices, some still do not wish to support this practice and prefer a center stone with a less-turbulent history.
